- I was another white gal who loved the Dead, The Stones etc. Eric Clapton changed my thinking and I got my first 8-track. Every day I love the blues more!

Mother and Father
- My father Frank Melrose was a blues and jazz piano player in the early years. He was killed when I was 2, but my mother loved his music, taught herself the piano, and the blues played on!! Old ones like the "oh Daddy Blues," "Worried Blues," etc, keep me playing the piano (self taught) and singing those same beloved blues.

- good ol' rock'n roll from the 60's & 70's (while growing up) taught me to love the blues; but the movie 'in the air' used sharon jones & the dap king's rendition of 'this land is your land' & i got an ipod as a gift so i'm expanding my blues appreciation!

- WHEN I WAS YOUNG, LIVING IN THE RURAL COUNTRYSIDE BETWEEN FRESNO AND BAKERSFIELD, I WOULD LISTEN TO THE RADIO LIKE MOST KIDS. MOSTLY THERE WAS ROCK, RHYTHMN AND BLUES, OR COUNTRY MUSIC ON MOST OF THE TIME. ONCE IN A WHILE THE STATIONS WOULD PLAY SOME DIFFERENT MUSIC THAT I REALLY LIKED. I DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS BUT I REALLY LIKED IT. THE MUSIC WAS ELMORE JAMES, HOWLING WOLF, AND MUDDY WATERS. IT WASN'T UNTIL MY TWENTIES THAT I ACTUALLY BOUGHT A BLUES ALBUM. MY FIRST PURCHASE WAS TAJ MAHAL AND I'VE MADE MANY MORE PURCHASES SINCE THEN. THANKS TO THOSE FIFTIESS ARTISTS WHO INTROCUCED ME TO THE BLUES.
