American Music Story:
Keb' Mo' has endeared himself in the hearts of not just Blues fans, but all fans of American roots music. His approachable sound comes from the gumbo of music found in his hometown of Los Angeles, California. With a musical foundation in the church and varied R&B releases, including his solo project Rainmaker in 1980, Moore found his Blues home with the 1994 debut release Keb' Mo'.

Moore toured and recorded with Rock violin pioneer Papa John Creech.

Preceding his self-titled debut, Moore had come to the Blues by gigging with L.A. area Blues artists and through acting. Performances in local theatre and in the film Can't You Hear the Wind Howl?, where he portrayed Robert Johnson, cemented the Keb' Mo' persona that eventually would be headining Blues festivals around the world and recording award-winning Blues music.

Moore's magic? He makes the Country Blues sound, Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton, sound as if they were recording today. His modern sensibilities take off the edge that can make these original masters sound so alien. It also works in reverse. His originals ooze with that mud from the past that stains the heart with soul.

Moore is an accomplished guitarist. Adept at other string instruments, he has also recorded with the banjo, bouzouki, steel guitar, mandolin, and bass. As with all master musicians, Mo's a master of what he doesn't play. This gives the maximum Blues effect to what he does play. His sound has a more familiar texture, like folk music, that features catchy lyrics and hum-able melodies.

Keb' Mo' has grown to be one of America's most important roots musicians. His ability to satisfy the commercial reality of big record companies while maintaining a strong connection to the Blues ensures the the next generation will know of The Groove.
