Sweet Home Chicago: One of blues music's enduring standards, the song "Sweet Home Chicago" is nevertheless embroiled in some controversy over its origins. Recorded by blues legend Robert Johnson, who is usually credited with writing the song, many scholars trace the song's creation to the Scrapper Blackwell composition "Kokomo Blues," while others note its similarity to songs by bluesmen Kokomo Arnold and Leroy Carr. Delta bluesman David "Honeyboy" Edwards, a friend and performance partner of Johnson's, has also claimed authorship of the song, but regardless of who actually wrote the tune, it has been recorded through the decades by artists like Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and dozens of others.
