Arhoolie Records: Independent folk and blues label formed by high school teacher Chris Strachwitz in 1960 in El Cerrito, California. Strachwitz originally formed the label in order to record Texas blues guitarist Lightning Hopkins. Arhoolie has released albums from blues artists like Hopkins, Bukka White, Charlie Musselwhite, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Big Mama Thornton along with recordings of Mexican tejano, Cajun, zydeco, and bluegrass music.
