January 10 - 16, 2005
Tallahassee, Florida
The Blues year starts off with a bash! A birthday bash for the Rev. Martin Luther King. Tallahassee, Florida's Appalachee Blues Society, The Moon, and the Bradfordville Blues Club will host the 9th annual Freedom Blues Festival.
Blues is the great unifier bringing together the entire Blues community, young and old, black and white, rich and poor, in a seven day Festival culminating with three stages jam packed with over thirty top-notch international, national and regional Blues artists performing January 15th and 16th, 2005. Add participatory Blues instrument workshops on harmonica, slide guitar and standard guitar, and Blues film documentaries, a roundtable-performance on Blues and violence in the South, plus a late evening Fringe Festival in multiple venues across Florida's Capital City going until the wee hours, and you've got an absolutely incredible week-long Blues
This year's Freedom Blues Festival features an indoor electric stage, an indoor acoustic stage, and an outdoor community stage, all on the same grounds on Tallahassee's famed Lafayette Street, once the neighborhood of Blues legend "Tallahassee Tight" who performed with "Tampa Red" .
This year's Festival headliners are the sizzling Smokin' Joe Kubek with B'Nois King, the powerful Mighty Sam McClain, the houserockin' Jason Ricci & Newblood, and the soulful Willie King & The Liberators on the Full Moon electric Blues stage. Headlining the Half Moon acoustic Blues stage are New Orleans fret master Spencer Bohren, W.C. Handy nominee Fruteland Jackson, the venerable Veronika Jackson, and Blues Diva Sandy Atkinson.
