Otha Ellas Bates took a school yard name, attached a New Oleans-ish infectious rhythm on the guitar, and became one of Rock and Roll's most influential musicians. Born in Mississippi and transplanted to Chicago, Bo Diddley had a few minor hits, his rhythmic impact is felt to this day.
