Booker T & the MG's
The Stax house band for many of the records to come out of the Stax label, Booker T. & the MG's had enourmous success as an instrumental group with their hit "Green Onions." If you've ever seen a movie that takes place in the 60's to early 70's, you've heard the song. CDAlbert Collins: Live '92-'93
Albert Collins
Recorded live from his performance at the '92 Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and his final tour in Peoria, Illinois in '93, this disk captures the Ice Man's biting guitar style. The Master of the Telecaster was going strong even in his last year. CDBo Diddley/Go Bo Diddley
Bo Diddley
24 tracks from this Blues inovator. He'll have you dancing in the isles and boppin' your head to the famous "Bo Diddley" beat. CDChef Aid: The South Park Album
Matt Stone, Adam Berry, Various Artists
Okay, you probably think I'm on something strong to put tis album on a Blues page. The truth is, this has some funky cuts from Isaac Hayes (the voice of chef), Rick James, Ike Turner, Wyclef, and a host of other artists that give this album a heavy funk that you can smell all the way down the hall. CDFive Guys Named Mo
Original London Cast Recording
The sound track album to the musical of the same name, Five Guys Named Moe pays a musical tribute to some of the greatest Jazz and Blues songs ever written like "Cal'Donia" and "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby." CDDamn Right, I've Got the Blues
Buddy Guy
There is absolutely no doubt that Buddy got the Blues. CDFeels Like Rain
Buddy Guy
I first heard Buddy sing "Feels Like Rain" at Wolftrap here in Va. He really made it rain. I knew I had to go out and get this platter. CDSlippin' In
Buddy Guy
Armed with his polka dot Stratocaster, Buddy's '94 release makes you wanna jump up and dance. The Delta gone to the Jimi side of electric. CDRespect Yourself
Etta James
My Blues professor, Otis Williams, always told us that until we heard Etta James sing "I'd Rather Go Blind," we wouldn't know anything about the Blues. He was right. CDHer Best: The Chess 50th Anniversary Collection
Etta James
20 tracks of the best of Etta James. She got a the soul that will make you wanna get up and dance. CDThe Ultimate Dr. John

THE definitive collection of B.B. King. If you can afford it, this will satisfy your B.B. King Blues for years to come. And the tunes are still as fresh as they were when they were first cut on vinyl. CD (4 discs)Why I Sing the Blues
B.B. King
The first recording of B.B.'s smash hit and most favorite song, "The Thrill is Gone." Classic cuts that will never die. This is one of my favorites. CDBest of B.B. King
B.B. King
With classics like "Nobody Loves me but my Mother," this is a best of compilation that will get you rockin'. CDBest of Bobby Bland, B.B. King, and Junior Parker
Junior Parker, Bobby Bland, B.B. King
Classic hits from these three greats. You can hear B.B. and Bobby sing "Let the Good Times Roll." CDExperience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix
Good for Hendrix beginners. You get a good slice of his MIGHTY guitar skills. CDBlues
Jimi Hendrix
At his core, Jimi was a Blues man. This disc compiles some of his best Blues, some origional, some covers. If you have any doubts about Jimi's Blues roots, this platter will completely erase them. HIGHLY RECOMENDED! CDBand of Gypsies [ORGIONAL RECORDING REMASTERED]
Jimi Hendrix
Recorded live on New Year's Eve ('69 - '70) at the Filmore in NY. This is THE ULTIMATE Hendrix album. You can't really say your Hendrix fanatic unless you have this one (well, you could say it, but it wouldn't be entirely true). All you need to hear is Jimi play "Machine Gun" and you'll know what it means to play electric guitar. CDWoodstock
Jimi Hendrix
From his stellar performance at Woodstock. Yup, this is the one where he played the "Star Spangled Banner" and offended a bunch of tight wads in Washington. CDIn From the Storm
Various (Tribute to Jimi Hendrix)
What if Jimi Hendrix had access to a full symphonic orchestra? This album sets out to answer that question. An enourmous project with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and various musicians set out to put Jimi Hendrix songs to orchestral arrangements. All I gotta say is hearing Bootsy and an orchestra do "Purple Haze" just floored me. I LOVE this one. CDChill Out
John Lee Hooker
Released in '95, you can hear that JLH is still jamming after over eighty years. No one can boogie like the man who invented it. CDGreatest Hits
Janis Joplin
One of the most powerful female vocalists of the 60's, Janis sings each track as if it's her last. CDPearl
Janis Joplin
One of my friends absolutely loves Janis. Her online nickname is "Pearl" so I figured I'd check out the album. "Mercedes Benz" is a great song if you're feeling particularly down. CDLie To Me
Jonny Lang
Alright, so the kid's got a lil' lightnin'. He was about sixteen years old when he cut this. Got some pretty nice sounding tracks and he's got a very mature sounding voice. It's the mileage that he needs. CDLed Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin
Their first album. Jimmy Page and crew paid for studio time to record this album before they got the record deal. Their producer siad they sucked so bad they would sink like a "Led Zeppelin." Instead of walking into the record company with a measily demo, they handed over an album. Now we know them as one of the hardest rock bands out there. And it's all about the Blues. CDLed Zeppelin II
Led Zeppelin
Their sophomore effort. You can hear the boys expanding on their Blues roots to deliver a powerful mix of acoustic and electrified waves of sound. CDLed Zeppelin III
Led Zeppelin
The album cover of their third album had a silly gimmick. There were open panels on the cover and a wheel inset behind it. The idea was that when you turn the wheel, the panels show different images (back in the day when an album's first cut was still on vinyl). Not sure how successful it was, but with powerful cuts like "Immigrant Song" and "Tangerine," this album kicks despite the cheesey gimmick. CDLed Zeppelin IV
Led Zeppelin
Perhaps the most requested song ever and most covered song in history, this album includes "Stairway to Heaven." Oh, and it's usually the first song that all guitar players learn how to play. CDPhysical Graffiti
Led Zeppelin
Last one, I promise. This double album include the masterpiece, "Kashmir." This two different rhythms (the drums are going in 4/4 and the guitar is something like 5/4 or 3/4 or something like that). Besides being a Classic Rock standard, the song is beutifully composed. Oh yeah, Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page did a remake for the recent Godzilla film. I won't insult your ears or eyes by giving you links to either. CDLife On Planet Groove
Maceo Parker
Okay, so Maceo is on the Funk side of the Blues world. But you just gotta get this record if ya like good music. This one will have you funkin' into the new millennium. CDThe Best of Santana
Santana
You will be hard pressed to find a more spiritual guitarist than Carlos Santana. You just have to hear him play. CDTrouble Is...
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
I heard him play "Blue on Black" on some talk show. Pretty good stuff for a relatively young gun on the Blues scene. He replaced Eric Johnson on the G3 tour with guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Pretty good stuff for a new kid on the block. CDBall N' Chain
Big Mama Thorton
Hear the original version of "Hound Dog" before Elvis got his hands on it. Big Mama sings it with a raw energy and power that will just blow you away. CDHound Dog: The Peacock Recordings
Big Mama Thorton
I can't get enough of Big Mama. The power of her voice could tumble mountains. Now that's some hard Blues. CDJail
Big Mama Thorton
Recorded live at Monroe State Prison in Washington, this is Big Mama rocks the jail house like no one else. CDThe Sky is Crying
Stevie Ray Vaughan
I've heard lots of people cover Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but Stevie's is the only version that really captures the true feel of the song. CDTexas Flood
Stevie Ray Vaughan
With classic cuts like "Pride and Joy" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb," Stevie brought the Blues from obscurity to the so called 80's mainstream. We love you Stevie! CDStormy Monday
T-Bone Walker
He was Duck Walking years before Chuck Berry even picked up a guitar. The man invented electric Blues in the 20's with his 100 ft. guitar cord and crazy stage antics. "They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad." CDT-Bone Blues
T-Bone Walker
"Ain't nuthin' in this world the T-Bone Shuffle won't cure." CDBlues Band, Featuring Dizzy Gillespie
Muddy Waters, Dizzie Gillespie
Dizz appears on two tracks. This is a true gem that is a MUST HAVE for all Muddy Waters friends. CDFolk Singer
Muddy Waters
Classic cuts of Muddy before he plugged in. This is true Delta Blues. CDHoochie Coochie Man
Muddy Waters
One of his best live recordings I've heard from Muddy. CD
