A large pool of really good artists, covering not only blues, but various forms of fusion, and jazz..
There are no blues societies in place, but various 'clubs', catering for mostly acustic players, where the blues players 'slip-in' undetected until its too late! (They say there is no room for untallented players. yeah right)
Talent is spread throughout the country, where, tranditionally, the blues/rock bands hail from Durban, the cool fusion players from Cape Town, and real blues originate from Johanneburg. Pretoria tends to launch alternate bands with no real clue on blues! One of the major festivals, Oppi Koppi, caters for all tastes, and sometimes, off the main stream stage, blues features amongst the best heard in the country. I recall a band called "Blue Label" heating things up, followed by the "Blues Broers" (Blues Brothers), and other such lumineries. One-night stands where blues artists are invited to "jam-the-blues" are very popular.
