I've always assumed P. Diddy had tall props for the Blues. It's just that I've never really associated this New York artist/producer with a Chicaco shuffle. That will all change this fall when HBO heads down to Mississippi to start filming Love In Vain, a film about the life of Robert Johnson. Also headin' to the crossroads is Hip-hop titan Sean "Puff Daddy/P. Diddy" Combs, tapped to play the enigmatic Blues Master.

I also assumed the lead role would go to a certified Blues artist, whose playing and singing talents lent themselves to the part. This is why I'm not a movie executive. While Combs might not possess top-shelf Blues skills, he's got the groove and his marquee value guarantees tons of new Blues fans.

Time to second-guess the casting director.
