Blues Music Association

Industry Group Champions The Blues

By Reverend Keith A. Gordon, About.com

The term "Special Interest Group" keeps cropping up. We all know what they are talking about. A group of businessmen, who normally compete, get together and pool their resources to promote their industry for the good of all members. The term takes on such an ominous connotation during a campaign that it's almost a dirty word. But we're not here to discuss Presidential Politics. We are here to talk Blues Politics with our own Special Interest Group. The Blues Music Association (BMA).

Founded in 1998, the non-profit BMA was created solely to promote the Blues Music industry much in the same way the Country Music Association represents Country artists, producers, record labels, and other professionals. If you make your living from the Blues, these guys want to hear from you.

The BMA has also offered the best value in the Blues. Their sampler CD Get the Blues! spews grooves the very best of todays Blues artists but at the ridiculous price of $1.99!

Professional Blues musicians, Blues society members, and casual fans can get delve into the mechanics of the Blues music business with their "Tips from the Pros" section. Articles feature industry experts on talent booking, publicity, copyrighting songs, submitting demos, and radio strategies.

As with any industry organization, the BMA has commissioned a study of the state of the Blues industry. You can peruse the Blues pulse of the country in their demographic section. There are some surprises. 48% of all music fans like the Blues. The median income of Blues fans is a very un-Bluesy $54,000! Young folks usually hit the Blues Bars, old folks sprawl out at Blues festivals.

The Blues will take care of the music, the BMA will take care of the business.
