Folk Project Festival - May & October Best of the Net
Northern NJ. One of the most creatively run festivals anywhere. Limited to 250 participants with a full schedule of daytime workshops, evening concerts, late-night contra dancing & skits... it's more like folk camp! Artists typically hang with the crowd.

Flat Rock Music Festival
Flat Rock, NC. End of August. Songwriters in many genres.

Founder's Folk and Bluegrass Festival
Salt Lake City, UT. August. Annual festival organized by the excellent Inter-mountain Acoustic Music Assoc. Includes a prestigious songwriter contest.

Hills of Home Bluegrass Festival
Hills of Home Park (Old Home Place) on Smith Ridge between Coeburn and McClure, Virginia. End of May.

Kerrville Folk Festival
Kerrville, TX. Starts Memorial Day - 3 weeks. No festival lasts longer or creates more community with its top lineups, legendary campfires and lazy weekdays. Influential New Folk songwriter competition. Get a sense of the place in my Notes from the Road article.

Lotus Festival
Bloomington, IN, September 22-26. A festival featuring American traditional and world music, connected with the renowned folklore program at U of I.

Lowell Folk Festival
Folk festival with a focus on labor songs (Lowell was one of the great textile centers of New England). Last weekend in July.

Michael Arnone's Crawfish Fest
, Stanhope, NJ & Detroit, MI

Napa Valley Music and Wine Festival
Napa CA. Sept. 24-26. A fine songwriter festival, home of one of the most widely known songwriter contests.

National Council for Traditional Arts
This organization sponsors many, many festivals, including the Lowell Folk Festival and the Washington Celtic Festival. Many riches. This page lists 'em.

National Folk Festival
East Lansing, MI. August. Oldest folk festival in the country, and defined the form - including workshops, crafts and international music.

New Bedford Summerfest
In its fifth year, this has become one of the premiere traditional and contemporary folk music festivals, with over 20,000 attending.

New England Fiddle Fest & Contest
Bushnell Park, Hartford CT May 27th - great fiddlers from all over the country compete in this revived festival that used to be one of the country's largest events of its kind.

New Jersey Folk Festival

Newport Folk Festival
Newport, RI. August 12 & 13. Legendary for its oceanside setting and single huge stage, Newport seems to launch a star every year.

Northeast Texas Americana Music Festival
A November festival with songwriter-singer performances, song writing workshops, song writing contests, dances, and music played all over historic Winnsboro, Texas.

Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival
The last weekend in September in Guthrie, OK. This festival attests to the unprecedented spread of bluegrass around the world, with acts from six different European countries.

Old Settlers Music Festival
April 2000 festival at new location in Dripping Springs, Texas (west of Austin): Leftover Salmon, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Peter Rowan, Claire Lynch, Karl Shifflet & Big Country, Smokin' Grass, and more.
