The summer is hot, but these new releases are the hottest Blues records of summer 2002.
1) Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - Heads Up
There is nothing like the raw heat of a Lil' Ed show. The Blues Imperials are back with a new CD and Ed didn't forget the hot sauce.
2) Etta James - Burnin' Down the House
Etta James always has a mind-blowing live show. This is the best way to hear the Matriarch of the Blues, live and in brilliant color.
3) Rick Holmstrom - Hydraulic Groove
This groovy record has some surprises in store for Blues fans as Holmstrom bends the concept of modern Blues. Not a traditional record, he explores modern musical and recording concepts and pushes the new Blues frontier.
4) Coco Montoya - Can't Look Back
Strong Blues effort from the Blues most versatile side-man. Montoya doesn't mess around with the Blues, he state then purely and simply.
5) Corey Harris - Downhome Sophisticate
Corey Harris has made his Blues mark acoustically. But this release sees Harris and gang plug in for an electric session.
6) Magic Slim & Teardrops - Blue Magic
Magic Slim is the most consistent Blues artist on the scene today. You can always count on Slim for real Chicago Blues. Straight up!
7) Alvin Youngblood Hart - Down in the Alley
Hart goes acoustic on this release and does an incredibly convincing job of it. Check out the Blues banjo.
8) Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen
New Orleans is the home to some of the finest roots musicians on the planet. These cats all are fans of pianist Jon Cleary and his monster band. A musician's band to the max.
9) Otis Taylor - Respect the Dead
Taylor and his label have been making quite a stir on the Blues scene. It's some primitive stuff, but never fails to grab you deep inside.
10) Joanna Connor - The Joanna Connor Band
There are several women artists in the Blues, but Joanna is in a league of her own as a guitar slinger.
