Guide picks
Folk musicians' homepages that are worth your time. Most include bio, lyrics, soundclips, tour schedules and online ordering info.; from your About.com Guide

Hancock, Butch
One of the finest writers anywhere and one of my very favorites in any genre. This stuff constantly amazes. A good fan site with sounds and all.

The Handsome Family
Wildly imaginative reworking of really old American traditions, haunted by "Appalachian ballads, country spirituals and dirt-road blues from the 1920s and '30s, and centuries-old Scottish ballads." -The Chicago Tribune

Hardy, Jack
Peerless songwriter, a modern bard steeped in Celtic tradition and American history. One of the most influential and iconoclastic artists crafting songs today: Founding Editor of Fast Folk Musical Magazine.

Harley, Bill
Irreverent and very funny children's performer and songwriter, this sometime-NPR correspondent delivers what kids want, not the moralizing, educational stuff most adults think they should listen to.

Harper, Roy
Very fine singer-songwriter/guitarist from England with 25 albums over the last 35 years. Poetic & classy - in the style of Bert Jansch. Model website includes free MP3s and features like audio poems.

Harris, Emmylou
Always walking the edge between authentic folk and commercial country, Harris recently teamed up with Linda Ronstadt to make a Grammy nominated album.

Hartford, John
Made famous by Glenn Campbell's cover of "Gentle On My Mind," Hartford has eschewed the star-machine and made his own kind of music.

Hawkins, Ronnie
Perhaps the most unknown legend of folk-rock/roots music. Starting in the U.S. in the 50's, Hawkins made his career in Toronto. By all accounts, he influenced everybody.

Heaton, Anne
Relatively new on the scene, this New Englander is fast earning a reputation as a fine songwriter.

Hennebach, Margo
At her best, Hennebach writes meditative songs that sparkle musically with pop and Celtic inflections. Former member of Madwoman in the Attic, now performs with partner Mark Saunders. Site has sounds and store.

Heron, Gil Scott
Rapping poet sang and rapped his political message to mainly acoustic accompaniment back in 1970, foreshadowing the work of political rappers like Public Enemy and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

Hester, Carolyn
The "Texas Songbird," popular even before Baez hit the scene, Hester still performs.

Hinojosa, Tish
Tex-Mex chanteuse sings in English and Spanish. The songs are well-crafted, but the feel, not the writing is the focus. Official site

Holly, Buddy
So sue me.

Holy Modal Rounders
Legendary group sounded like a jug band on acid - not what John Sebastian had in mind. Minimal site includes short history, discography, and ordering info.
