Doing anything on Saturday evening, February 9th, 2013? Located anywhere near Denver, Colorado? Then you might want to consider spending a night with the Royal Southern Brotherhood and help out a good cause, the Blue Star Connection. That night at the El Jebel Event Center, the RSB will headline "A Mardi Gras Celebration for Blue Star Connection," with Tommy Malone of the Subdudes and blues guitarist Austin Young also performing.
Blue Star Connection is a non-profit organization that "gives the gift of music" to medically fragile children and young adults fighting cancer, fulfilling their musical wishes as well as outfitting musical therapy departments in children's hospitals across the United States with instruments. Check out the Blue Star Connection website for more details on the event.
Blame it on the weather, but it took the Reverend most of the month to cobble together this long overdue Blues Bites review column for January. This month's column focuses on guitar-driven blues and blues-rock and includes reviews of recent releases from Dave Fields, Rival Sons, and the trio of David Hidalgo, Mato Nanji, and Luther Dickinson. While it's kind of beyond our normal blues coverage, the Reverend decided to jump knee-deep into this review of the Rock Candy Funk Party album with guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Try it, you might like it...
