The Blues Foundation has announced the nominees for the organization's 34th annual Blues Music Awards, confirming the awards show for Thursday, May 9th, 2013 at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee.
Janiva Magness and John Nemeth made out like bandits this year, each singer garnering five BMA nominations apiece, and it was a very good year for Alligator Records, which has released a strong slate of albums in 2012. Aside from the talented Ms. Magness, Alligator artists Curtis Salgado, Joe Louis Walker, and Michael "Iron Man" Burks all grabbed four nominations, while Rick Estrin and the Nightcats took three noms, and Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials had two nominations.
The organization honors blues musicians in 25 different categories, from acoustic and traditional blues to blues-rock and soul-blues music. Forget the Grammy® Awards, 'cause this is where the blues really rocks the house, and if you can't make it to Memphis in May, you can always listen to the entire awards ceremony, which runs several hours, broadcast live on Sirius XM satellite radio on B.B. King's Bluesville channel. See who else received a nomination with our preview of the 2013 Blues Music Awards...
