Bluesman Mud Morganfield will be traveling to the United Kingdom later this month, where he'll appear on the prestigious BBC Two television program, Later With Jools Holland. Morganfield's appearance on the show will air in the U.K. on Tuesday, November 20th and again on Friday, November 23rd, 2012. The bluesman was invited to appear on the show by the host, pianist and bandleader Holland, a former member of the popular outfit Squeeze in the 1970s and '80s and later frontman for Jools Holland & His Millionaires.
Evidently Holland saw Morganfield perform at the London Blues Festival in June and asked him to appear on his long-running television show after joining Mud onstage for a performance of Mud's father Muddy Waters' classic "Got My Mojo Working." For Morganfield, the appearance on Later With Jools Holland is yet another high point in a year filled with such. Since the release of Morganfield's Severn Records debut album Son of the Seventh Son in March 2012, the bluesman has racked up the accolades, including a Blues Blast Music Award for "Traditional Blues CD of the Year" as well as the "Sean Costello Rising Star Award" for his individual achievments.
"I am ever so grateful for the blessing," say Morganfield in a press release about the TV show. "Here I find myself again in a great moment of my life. I am thrilled and overwhelmed, to say the least, to appear on the Jools Holland show. This is what an artist lives for: awards, write-ups in magazines, being on stage with great people and having fun in the blues. To add to all these great things, I represent the blues that my farther passed down to me. I thank Mr. Holland and everyone else who made this happen."
The BBC Two television appearance kicks off Morganfield's nine-date British tour, during which he'll be performing with some of England's best and brightest young blues artists, including guitarist Ronni Buysack-Boysen, harp player West Weston, and keyboardist Eric Ranzoni. He'll also appear on the cover of the latest issue of England's Blues Matters magazine, to be published at the end of the month.
