The results of the fifth annual Blues Blast Music Awards have been announced, and the great blues singer Janiva Magness and up-and-coming blues legacy Mud Morganfield were the big winners this year. Voting in the awards is by subscribers to Blues Blast magazine which means, basically, everybody because the zine is free and delivered to you weekly by email if you just sign up...a sweet deal by any measure!
Blues Blast readers voted Janiva Magness as "Female Blues Artist of the Year" and her recent Stronger For It album as "Contemporary Blues CD of the Year," also awarding the Magness/David Darling composition "I Won't Cry" as "Song of the Year." Mud Morganfield, son of Chicago blues legend Muddy Waters (a/k/a McKinley Morganfield) earned awards of his own, receiving the "Sean Costello Rising Star Award" as well as the "Traditional Blues CD of the Year" nod for his excellent Son Of The Seventh Son album. See who else won a Blues Blast Music Award...
