The Dusters

Nashville blues-rockers the Dusters are keepin' it real with the iTunes release of their new single, "Delta Jubilee." Recorded with Mississippi Delta blues legend Pinetop Perkins, the song represents the culmination of several years of chasing ghosts.

After a successful European tour in support of their 2002 album Dang!, Dusters guitarist Ken McMahan and bassist David Barnette decided that it was time to get back to the roots of the blues, and they took a trip down to Mississippi to follow in the footsteps of music folklorist Alan Lomax. The two musicians traveled to Stovall Plantation in 2007, and they made their own field recordings on the same day that Lomax had first recorded Muddy Waters. They also recorded several songs in a 1940s-era sharecropper's shack on Hopson Plantation, using period instruments.

In Memphis, the Dusters laid down tracks at the legendary Sun Studios, recording with a number of blues music's most beloved figures, including Perkins, Eddie Shaw, Big Jack Johnson, T-Model Ford, and others. Later sessions yielded the songs "Blues Highway" and "Devil Risin' In Me," both also available on iTunes and recorded in the same Delta blues spirit with friends like Mike Scaccia of Ministry, Nick Kane of the Mavericks, and local blues talents like Terry "Big T" Williams, Lightnin' Malcolm, and others.

While the Dusters are currently finishing up an album comprised of these timeless recordings, you can get a taste of the band here on YouTube, or head over to iTunes to hear more. You can find out more about this talented, underrated band on their website.
