Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm

Mississippi Hill Country bluesmen Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm are burning up the road these days in support of their 2008 CD 2 Man Wrecking Crew. The Delta Groove Music release earned the duo a coveted Blues Music Award for "Best New Artist Debut" earlier this year, as well as a Blues Blast Music Award nomination in the magazine's upcoming ceremony.

In Blurt Magazine, your humble Blues Guide wrote "the blueprint for 2 Man Wrecking Crew is written on parchment as old as the blues itself. Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm have created a fusion of soul, funk, and hip-hop that uses the hypnotic mind-meld of the elder Burnside and his pal Junior Kimbrough as its foundation. The young Burnside's kitwork is robust, his drumbeats shooting off the four walls with juke-joint precision. Malcolm's guitar is fluid and nasty, purring like a wildcat one moment, roaring like an out-of-tune Harley the next. Together, they update the ancient Mississippi blues sound of their forebears with new blood and fire."

As for their live show, the Reverend witnessed the self-professed "Juke Joint Duo" in action at this summer's Big Rib Bar-B-Que and Blues Fest in Rochester, New York where Burnside and Malcolm had the Q-chompin' festival attendees up on their feet and shakin' their booties. These guys are the real blues deal, and they rock the house, so you'd best prepare to catch them live when they come anywhere near your hometown!

It’ always good to see new young artists on the scene. Cedric Burnside & Lightnin’ Malcolm are a welcome duo. With the energy they possess they should go far. Best of luck to them.
