Blues artists Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang will be headlining the upcoming Experience Hendrix Tour along with guitarists Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Eric Johnson. Blues great Hubert Sumlin, longtime guitarist for the legendary bluesman Howlin' Wolf, will also be appearing. Authorized by the Hendrix estate, this year's tour is co-sponsored by Gibson Guitar.
The annual Experience Hendrix Tour is a celebration of the life and music of Jimi Hendrix, with featured guests performing classic Hendrix tunes like "Purple Haze," "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and "Red House." This year's event will be a five-week, cross-country tour with eighteen dates, expanding upon last year's seven-date tour. Hendrix's noted rhythm section – bassist Billy Cox and drummer Mitch Mitchell – which played behind the guitar genius at festivals like Woodstock and the Isle of Wight, will be featured during the Experience Hendrix Tour.
Other guests on this year's tour include Memphis guitarslinger Eric Gales, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Mato Nanji of Native American blues band Indigenous, Cesar Rojas and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, and Chris Layton of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble band. Special guests will be announced on the road, with former Doors guitarist Robby Krieger appearing on the first five dates of the tour.
Highlights from the 2004 and 2006 Experience Hendrix Tours have been recently released on DVD by Image Entertainment. We've got this year's tour dates listed below; check with the Experience Hendrix Tour website for more info on this pulse-pounding tour!

No dates in the south except Kentucky???
What about the Carolinas? We got a little bit of Blues down here, more now…
Johny Lang is probably the most talented and underated blues talent, today!
I went to the concert last night at the Greek Theater. I thought that bands didn’t do Hendrix covers because they couldn’t reproduce his sound. I was wrong. Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robby Krieger and Eric Johnson all nailed it. With the exception of a few technical difficulties and a couple aging rockers, the evening was perfect!
It was a great event and the performances by Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Buddy Guy and David Hidalgo & Caesar Rosas of Los Lobo.
I’d love to buy this performance on a CD if it came available.
