Goodbye To Rick Wright....

Tuesday September 16, 2008

Pink Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright, a founding member of the classic rock band, died yesterday at the age of 65 from cancer. Although Pink Floyd is best-known for its prog-rock inspired soundscapes and early psychedelic influences, in the beginning the band played a mix of American rhythm and blues typical of mid-1960s British rock bands.

Although the band's connection to blues music is tenuous at best, Pink Floyd was named in honor of two obscure blues artists – Pink Anderson and Floyd Council – of which original frontman Syd Barrett was particularly fond. Now that we've made our obligatory reference to the band's blues roots, I'll toss you all over to Dave White, About.com's Classic Rock Guide, for more….
