Johnny Winter Live In The '70s DVD Preview

Wednesday August 27, 2008

Blues artist Johnny WinterBlues artist Johnny Winter is a familiar name to anybody that appreciates slash-and-burn guitar, and Winter aficionados seem to be equally split between the musician's 1970s-era blues-n-roots-rock material on Blue Sky Records, and his later houserockin' recordings for the Alligator and Point Blank labels during the 1980s and '90s. Fans of the former will rejoice come October 28th, 2008 when our friends at Music Video Distributors release Winter's Live Through The '70s DVD.

Live Through The '70s collects official archival video of a number of classic Winter performances from disparate sources, such as a 1970 appearance on Danish TV and a Royal Albert Hall performance in London that same year. The 111-minute DVD also includes a 1973 broadcast of Winter from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert; a 1974 Winter performance from the Blues Summit in Chicago; a 1974 performance at Musikladen in Bremen, Germany; and a 1979 appearance on Rockpalast in Germany. Among the songs captured on tape are Winter faves like "Johnny B. Goode," "Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo," and "Mean Town Blues."

Johnny Winter's Live Through The '70s features gorgeous 5.1 surround sound, and mixed throughout the various video clips is interview footage of the talented guitarist filmed in 1970 at the Detroit Tubeworks. Live Through The '70s deserves a place next to the television for any Johnny Winter fan, or even for those that appreciate lively and electric blues-rock guitar.

Does anyone know if the songs will be complete, uncut and in their entirety?
Thanks

“””mixed throughout the various video clips is interview footage”””

If the songs are cut up than this release will be a waste for many die hard fans.

I also saw JW several times in the early 70’s including a show at the Boston Tea Party, ( or was it the Ark), either the night of, or the next day following the death of Jimi Hendrix. Johnny dedicated his show to him. He always put on a great show and I am looking forward to the DVD.
